Statement

My father and ancestors were all seamen from an islet in Taiwan. The ocean, boats and seaman’s courage led us to different kinds of displacement. Our experiences of migration trigger me to question it impact on transcultural people’s notions of home and cultural hybridity through memories and present encounters in the new culture. In my artistic practice, I use painting as the primary medium and often incorporate participatory workshops in the research process.

From the memories I collect, I have been building a world of Memory Diaspora, in which transcultural memories are stored and evolve together.

Different types of optical viewers sometimes appear in my work. I use them as metaphor for my transcultural experiences between the East and West.
